Withdrawal Before Publication
In the world of academic publishing, when a paper is submitted to a particular journal, the document becomes the property of the publisher. If an author wishes to withdraw a manuscript before it is published, they must submit a formal written request to the editor.
Retraction After Publication
Published articles may be retracted in cases where:
- There is clear evidence of unreliable findings due to misconduct or honest error
- The findings have been previously published elsewhere without proper referencing
- It constitutes plagiarism
- It reports unethical research
Article Replacement
In cases where an article is found to contain honest errors that affect the conclusions, the authors may request to publish a corrected version.
Expressions of Concern
If questions are raised about a published article that do not warrant immediate retraction, the editor may issue an Expression of Concern while an investigation is conducted.
